The state of Texas has the highest number of counties that are considered among the fastest growing in the United States, according to a recent story on AOL.

The counties were ranked by their growth from 2007 to 2008, measured in net migration. Typically, factors that contribute to rapid growth in a particular area include an affordable cost of living, employment base and schools.

Of the 100 counties ranked, a total of 19 are located in Texas with counties in the top 20 including:

  • No. 14  - Fort Bend County (County seat Richmond) with a 4.8 percent growth from 2007 to 2008. Net migration in Fort Bend County during that time was 24,565.  Other counties included:
  • No. 10 Hays County (County Seat San Marcos - tied with Rockwall County) with a 5.3 percent growth rate from 2007 to 2008, net migration 7,526;
  • No. 10 Rockwall County (County seat Rockwall), also with a 5.3 percent growth from 2007 to 2008;
  • No. 6 – Williamson County, Texas (County Seat Georgetown), with a 6.0 percent growth  from 2007 to 2008.
